The Girl Who Loves the Millennium Trilogy

If you haven't watched the first or second installment of the Millennium Trilogy.. you are definitely missing out on this Swedish goldmine! Although I probably should've read the books prior to watching the movies.. I can't change the past now. However, I am here.. as the official "Girl Who Loves the Millennium Trilogy", to tell you to go rent The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo.. then the very next day, watch The Girl Who Played With Fire. You will not be disappointed. Seriously. When have I ever let you down? NEVER. Here's some trailers for you to feast your dreamy little eyes on...

Toy Story!!!

of my life! just kidding. Got a new job.. not a full time one but a contract job with a.. you guessed it.. a toy company! How rad is that, right? Yes.. very rad. I'm super stoked about it and although it's only a three week contract, I am soaking it up in all it's glory. I can't really talk about it much.. but just wanted to let you know what I've been up to the last few days...

p.s. I still want to watch Toy Story 3. D'oh!

I Write Like...

I write like
Margaret Atwood
I Write Like by Mémoires, Mac journal software. Analyze your writing!

and now a poem by Margaret Atwood:

Siren Song

This is the one song everyone
would like to learn: the song
that is irresistible:

the song that forces men
to leap overboard in squadrons
even though they see beached skulls

the song nobody knows
because anyone who had heard it
is dead, and the others can’t remember.
Shall I tell you the secret
and if I do, will you get me
out of this bird suit?
I don’t enjoy it here
squatting on this island
looking picturesque and mythical
with these two feathery maniacs,
I don’t enjoy singing
this trio, fatal and valuable.

I will tell the secret to you,
to you, only to you.
Come closer. This song

is a cry for help: Help me!
Only you, only you can,
you are unique

at last. Alas
it is a boring song
but it works every time.

I look up to the Sky

Every time I feel a need to disconnect.. so that I can reconnect, Sky Gellatly never fails. His blog is one that always transports me to places in my mind that I always seem to forget. And I like it. I like the way it makes me feel- uncomfortable, naive, lost and then found. It's like an instant reset button that reinvigorates me in ways that no other person could. To top it off, I have no idea who he is. I've never seen his face, never felt his energy, and probably never will. Yet, he knows me and he knows he can speak to me, albeit via blog. So here's a little reset button, eh.. blog post from the stimulator himself..

REAL TALK: We don’t kill time, we murder it.

For me, its more like “Them Weekly.” That usage of “US” is far too presumptuous.
How soon is then? We’re never there, actually, we’re always here.
Flash. Photo. Record. Post. Comment. React. Repeat.
LCKNG LTTRS? CNFSNG.
Flying first class is pretty comfortable. Yes, you get to skip the ticket lines at the airport, get free champagne (lots), and your seat reclines like a bed. But, you feel the same turbulence as everyone else—and your baggage comes to you on the same carousel.
Classism is just that: a construct of thought predicated on manufactured superiority.
Supremacy =  preSumacy
Change your ways—while you’re young. Also, Smile—like you mean it.
Engineered authenticity vs. Original Fake = Semantics Matter.
Courage lives beyond time stamps. Championship rings are only relevant until the next whistle blows.
Call shots.
Yes, I’d love to work for you. And half up front is the only way this works. We are meeting in the middle, right?
Do you live for a photo op, or for the opportunity to take a photo?
My dad used to tell me that he saw the world as a big picture “filled with shapes.” So strange: I see the world the same now as well. In this way, I think that perception can be genetic. Well, maybe more a part of who we are than we know. After all, we have souls, right?
Colors run deep, many which we never show to the light of day. After all, our blood is really blue—so we think.
And yes, we all bleed the same. Illegal to Regal.
Create something. Then you’ll have something to stand up for. Conversely, you’ll have something that can stand up for you—when you can’t talk, or aren’t around.
Don’t watch me and don’t watch TV.
You are the company that you keep.
Love and hate. Hate and love. Love to hate. Hate to love. Love. Hate. Late.
Cat and mouse sounds a lot different when it’s rat and kitten.
And yes, I missed you too. Badly.
No ceilings.

Geisha, my deer

I've got Scales

as skin. No, not really. But I love doing nifty little posters like this one for my favorite local band. It was a late night project I did a couple of nights ago. If you haven't checked them out, give 'em a listen. You will not be disappointed. Or better yet, I'll see you at the show!

Projekt 619//Voyeur June 6th

A couple of Sundays ago I participated in an event called Projekt 619 at the downtown San Diego club/restaurant Voyeur. I was honored to be personally invited by Deanne Shockey, who is the head buyer and owner of the boutique, Haven.  As the story goes, it was my first event EVER as Kit Kat Designs so there was quite an air of mystery as to how it was going to turn out. And as the rest of the story goes, it was a success! Or.. as my friend Lindsay Danger said.. it was sucsexy! I got a lot of positive feedback, met some other amazing artists and designers, and sold a lot of my jewelry. But I must mention, Sunday brunches at Voyeur are so much fun! You can't beat $1 mimosas.. and paired with the boutique blowout sale.. it was a haven for L.O.V.E. and fun. I definitely look forward to doing similar events in the future. I also have a few orders in for some custom pieces.. so if you are interested, don't forget to email me at love.april@hotmail.com. Please remember that there is a one month turn around time for all orders. Thank you!

Here are some pictures from the event.. meowtastic!
Custom pieces: Multi-strand T$ necklace and DJ Brazzabelle's harness

DJ Brazzabelle in action

My instant display. This is after I sold a few pieces so it looks a little scraggly. ;)

I shared my booth space with none other than my bfffy T$ aka Tarin.

Crowd shot. You can peep Jason Huggins of Five&ADime in the plaid shirt. I love his handlebar mustache. Mustachios unite!

and Voyeur's infamous LED wall.. sans go-go dancers.

A Sigh of Relief

Wow. The hardest quarter I've had my entire time at AI is almost done and past. I can finally breathe a sigh of relief.. well kind of. I still have to put together my display for Portfolio Show next Wednesday, June 16th at the San Diego Air and Space Museum from 11-2pm. It's open to the public, too! So if you are in the area, please stop by my booth and say- "hello!" or as my kitty friends would say- "meow!"

So.. I breathe a sigh of relief and take a "Zoey" break. Oh.. and I did an art show at AC Lounge last Thursday ANDDDDD Projekt 619 this past Sunday. More posts and pics to come. love love love! -KKD

Donde esta kit kat?

My friend Joy posted that on my fb recently. Where have I been?! I've been doing work and keeping busy.. whether I like it or not. It's week 6 and I basically have 4 weeks to get all my shit wrapped up. Not only that.. but I have an Art Show on June 3rd AND I just agreed to do an event called Projekt 619 at Voyeur on June 6th. Please come and see my jewelry there! I will have forms for those of you that want custom orders done. I just sent in my 2nd order earlier this week.. and I made Miss Boots aka Brazzabelle her very own necklace. I still don't know what to do in terms of chains and such. But rest assured.. I will make it super sassafrassy and fierce! So not only do I have this mental stress.. but I have the physical stress on top of it. Work Work Work... some Play.. but not enough of it! Meowowy! Cest la vie! Now a music link to take you to Zoeyland... <3<3<3

I love your guts.

#3. Fun and playful.. I added some bright pink highlights/shading. Not sure if I like the addition. Anyhoot.. it was fun painting guts!

Sail Ho!

I acquired a bunch of glass panes that measure 14x14 some time ago. I haven't figured out what to do with them exactly.. but since I went on a paint pen shopping spree yesterday, I decided to test them on said glass panes. It was a little hard to get used to the 'slip' pens have on this 'new' medium for me, but I think I will do more test projects to see what I can come up with. I talked to my artist friend Alex today at Small Bar.. and he said he loves working with glass since.. if paired with light, it will give another dimension to the work.

Cecilia Cassini

I am proud to introduce 10-year old prodigy.. Cecilia Cassini! At 10 years old, Little Miss Cassini is already making a name for herself in the high-fashion industry. One of her famous clients happens to be Miley Cyrus.. which I can't so much relate to.. but hey, that's quite a famous client! Check out this dress she made from her New York collection which was inspired by all the taxis that run around town.

Black (& White) Mamba

Black Mamba just released a video for their new song, "White Woods." The video is directed by Josh Hassin and is done in black & white with lots of layering.. and when paired with the ethereal and somewhat haunting song.. it almost takes you back to winter.. and I mean the winters you have back East! But let's all be glad it's almost summer here in San Diego and that good bands keep churning out good music.. and good videos.

An Art Show...

Obama is the Anti-Christ

LOL! I can't believe 24% of Republicans polled at Harris actually think Obama is the Anti-Christ. I gave Republicans more credit than I should've...
After reading all of the options.. I thought I made the best choice. I was wrong. At least I got a good laugh from it. I'm not hating on Republicans.. but things like this really make me scratch my head and think, "huh?"

This Isn't Happiness

No, I'm not going emo on you guys. I just found a blog by Peter Nidzgorski and "This Isn't Happiness" just happens to be the name of his blog! I found something that I truly must share. His blog screams:
SURRRRRRRREALIST!
and I love it. I love how surrealism makes you see things in ways that you've never actually seen them before.. except maybe all the perverted, fucked up things that you see in your head. Oh.. just me? Shucks. Sorry. ;)

Photo of the day

This is a photo taken from my house. We have this vertical curio case that houses my iPod player, DVDs, etc. The neat thing about this curio case is that the very top of it is a glass case where you can display neat things like toys and such. I had my grandiose sherlock in there for a while but decided to change it up a bit.
Pictures of Kaitlin & I during our good ol' days at the Reader. check.
The Garden State - New Jersey tags. check.
Super kitschy robot pencil sharpener. check.
Acrylic cut-out of the word "TYPOGRAPHY." check.

For my bestey...

Check out this necklace I made for my very berry best friend, Tarin. There's also a little charm that hangs down the back and it's a diamond cut-out (also acrylic.) She has short hair so I think it will look really sexy on when she wears it out.. day or night! More pictures to come!

What kind of typeface are YOU?

Here's a sneak preview of some new jewelry I'll be making. As far as my answer goes for the question above.. I've been diggin' Century Gothic lately. For reals.

Welcome to the Mod House

Here's a new logo I designed for my 'casino' project for Mike Lynch's class. It's my last quarter.. and I'm kinda freaking out guys! As you can tell.. it's a 'mod' themed casino, folks!

Upon looking at this again.. I need to move the letters around so they are not touching each other. I designed the type myself, too. Likey?

it's Time for Wow

Just some random photos via ffffound that'll make you say "hmmm" "wow" "oh no they did-nt!" or just "gasp!" Take a mini-visual vacay.. on my dime. Not really.. but do it. NOW.  I am your Domina. Okay.. I've been watching Spartacus and apparently it's having an effect on me.
for Joy.. we love/hate crows/ravens.

Because we all know it's all about the Cali Buds!

I will miss you Coachella! Next year...

You gotta love this no matter what.

I will EAT them if you are bad. I am your Domina!

Don't hate. No on Prop 8!

Don't cry. I love facials.

Love,
Kitty von Tease
